Goodbye (See You Later) Rosie

On the 28th of December 2017 Rosalie Dekker passed away after her long battle with breast cancer.

Rosie and her wonderful designs were the impetus for Creative Abundance and from the businesses very inception she has been an integral member of our team. Rosalie was not only a designer but a beloved daughter to the founders of Creative Abundance as well as a sister to CA’s current owners Naomi and Peter.  As a result, Rosie’s passing has left a great hole in the hearts of all of us at CA and we are very sad to have to say good bye (or see you later).

Quilting was Rosalie’s life and in her final years we had many talks with her on Friday afternoons about her creations and what she wanted us to do with them once she passed. She wanted her designs to live on, she wanted those who enjoyed her work to continue to be able to enjoy them, and she wanted her designs to continue to sell for the sake of her children.

Because of this Creative Abundance will continue to sell Rosie’s patterns and we encourage our customers to do the same. Along with her impressive back catalogue of patterns, there are a number of designs that she was working on up until she passed, and we hope with time to release these as new patterns, we were also in discussions with Rosalie about refreshing and re-releasing some of her older patterns.

Royalties from the sales of Rosalie’s patterns will continue to be passed on to her three children as an inheritance.

We are extremely grateful to those stores who were close to Rosalie who have run or plan to run events to celebrate her life and work, we know this is something that Rosalie wanted as we spoke with her about this before she passed, and she would have been very “chuffed” to see the response these events have received and to see these events raise funds for cancer research.

If you would like to donate to a charity in memory of Rosie, her charity of choice was “Love Your Sister” who raise funds and distribute them to various forms of cancer research.

We would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support over this very difficult time.  The quilting industry can be a place of beauty and kindness and we are grateful.
