The Birdhouse

I have dabbled in many different crafts over the years, including folk art and doll making, but found my true passion in patchwork.

In 2000, I designed and produced my first patterns, under The Birdhouse banner, mainly cloth dolls and stitcheries to begin with. Since then, I have ‘found’ and evolved my own style and tried to make things which I enjoy and which express who I am. I love stitchery and applique, combined with patchwork, especially hand blanket-stitch and needleturn applique. Most of my designs are sentimental or humourous and many feature quirky sayings or verses. I love to produce designs which make people smile.

I’m most inspired by my children, my friends and family, memories of childhood, and nature.

With a background in graphic design, I was excited to delve into designing and producing a themed, series of designs and put them into a book. In 2005, I released my first book, FairyLand, which features a fairy-themed series of projects, including bed quilt, and smaller projects to decorate a little girl’s bedroom. Since then, I have produced books featuring themes such as Friendship, Patchwork & Stitching, and Animals.

Designing, stitching, piecing and then finishing a quilt is my joy, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to do this every day.
